Telkom brought down Speedy Package Rate through New Service Packages

Jakarta, 5th July 2006 – After succeeded in launching Speedy service in Jakarta and Surabaya, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk (Telkom) now had started to launch this broadband access service nationally. With taking an expansive step, Speedy service was hoped will be able to deal with society’s problems to get high-speed access with relatively attainable price.

Telkom Main Director Arwin Rasyid said that on 7th July 2006, when Speedy was launched nationally, this high speed Internet access at least will be held in 22 cities, which is spread in seven Telkom Regional Division (Divre), covers:

Regional Division I : Medan, Batam, Palembang
Regional Division II : Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor, Tanggerang
Regional Division III : Bandung, Cirebon
Regional Division IV : Semarang, Yogyakarta, Solo
Regional Division V : Surabaya, Malang, Madiun, Jember
Regional Division VI : Balikpapan, Pontianak, Samarinda
Regional Division VII : Makasar, Denpasar, Manado

Speedy, said Arwin Rasyid, actually had been launched first commercially in big cities such as Medan, Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Makassar, Denpasar, etc. Nationally estimates, in year 2006 Telkom will be held 472.000 Speedy service connection units (SSL).

Telkom is active enough in collaborating with the other partner companies in developing Speedy service. On 16th June 2006 for example, Telkom through “Komputerku Duniaku” program, was cooperating with BNI, Microsoft, Intel, and Zyrex to offer Speedy Internet broadband for BNI credit card holders, which is in Jakarta-Bogor-Tanggerang-Bekasi (Jabotabek) areas. This program is held on 16th June – 31 August 2006, and also supported by Microsoft brand set, Intel and Zyrex.

Together with DKI Jakarta Province side, Telkom launched Speedy Goes to Government with Speedy facility in 89 North Jakarta Region Government area locations, which covers 7 sub district locations, 31 office of village-head locations, 46 officer at the same level with Kasudin locations, 5 service house of Regional Government Officer locations. For Internet facility on each office of village-head, Speedy had been used for Regional Government free Internet service for the society.

Telkom Main Director Arwin Rasyid in his speech in front of Telkom RUPST participants 30th June 2006 hoped that in the end of year 2006, TELKOMSpeedy customer number will be increasing sharply along with the plan to broaden service area. Arwin said that penetration to various areas was part of Telkom’s commitment to give high-speed broadband access service to Indonesian people.

TELKOMSpeedy customer number in the end of year 2005 was recorded reached 30.662 SSL, which was spread in Jakarta, Surabaya and Makassar. Whereas, customer number until May 2006 was recorded 43,168 SSL with ARPU (Average Revenue per User) reached Rp 498 thousands. Telkom decided target for Speedy sales was 444 thousands SSL in year 2006, 469 thousands SSL in year 2007, and 493 thousands SSL in year 2008.

Declining Rate
To increase customer number, Telkom also offers various new packages with lower rate compared with the old packages. These new packages covers:

Speedy Personal Package (750 MB) as the replacement of Light package (500 MB). Setting cost for Speedy Personal Package is only Rp 150 thousands, cheaper than Light package, which costs Rp 200 thousands. With bigger quota (750 MB) and the same rate (Rp 300 thousands), Speedy Personal package is clearly cheaper because the cost per mega byte is only Rp 700,- compared with the cost per mega byte for Light package, which costs Rp 1.200,-.

Speedy Professional Package (2000 MB) as the replacement of Heavy package (2000). Setting cost for this package is only Rp 150 thousands, cheaper than Heavy package, which costs Rp 200 thousands. Thus also for Professional package monthly rate is only Rp 700 thousands, cheaper than Heavy package, which costs Rp 800 thousands. Whereas Professional package quota is the same with Heavy package quota, that is 2000 MB.

Speedy Office Package (Unlimited) as the replacement of Unlimited package. For this package, Telkom only charge for setting cost Rp 150 thousands, far cheaper compared with Unlimited package, which costs till Rp 2,5 millions. Thus also for the monthly cost, which only Rp 2 millions, far cheaper than unlimited package, which costs Rp 3,8 millions.

Speedy Warnet Package (Unlimited). This is a new package to accommodate warnet needs. Setting costs for this package is only Rp 150 thousands, with monthly cost Rp 3 millions.

Unlimited Inclination

Arwin Rasyid said that in the future bandwidth volume, which is offered by Speedy, would incline following common broadband service that is unlimited, of course with inclining cheaper rate. The intentioned rate, Arwin continued, will be continuously worked suits with society’s capacity to buy so that Speedy’s usage will continuously grow and develop.

Besides doing service innovation, Telkom itself, said Arwin, will continuously do studies about affordability price to support sales target achievement or even Line in Service (LIS) capacity.

Speedy itself is a broadband access service from Telkom, which uses ADSL (Asymetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology to access internet with high speed and give data service and also phone/fax at the same time with only use one phone line and have dedicated characteristics so that all the time can go on line to access the internet. It’s strong points, Speedy can give the facility to download information/data faster until 6 times dial up access speed (regular phone line) or until 384 kbps. It’s upload speed can reach 64 kbps. Speedy charging is based on how much information/data, which is downloaded, in Mega Byte, not based on time unit like on dial up.
Right now, Speedy service is offered to the market in various variant, that are Speedy for Personal (750 MB per month), Speedy for Professional (2000 MB per month), Speedy for Office (bandwidth unlimited), and Speedy for Warnet (unlimited). Right now, Telkom is developing cooperation with Content & Service Provider development partner to support the preparation toward Triple Play service, which covers IP-TV, Streaming, and Video on Demand.
