Jakarta, August 18, 2010 – In operating Sound and Safe Internet Program designed by State Minister of Communication and Information Technology of PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (TELKOM) together with Awari cq. Organizer of Nawala fully support the establishment of Sound and Safe Hotline Internet service centre 0800-1000-147 launched on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in Jakarta. This hotline is managed by TELKOM and YKKI (Indonesian Creative Family Foundation), a non-profit independent institution.
“The latest fact, about the spread of internet misuse more intensively, indicates free using of internet technology which should be controlled so as to maintain well manner as Indonesian people”, said Chairman of Board of YKKI Establishment, Ms. Tifatul Sembiring.
As an organization of non-profit community service, YKKI from the beginning has prepared this program to respond to a deep concern about misuse of internet technology such as spread of some negative contents covering pornography and violence which will damage people’s morale. ”This is in line with vision of YKKI itself, that is, to realize Smart, Honoured, and Independent Family as foundation of NKRI (Unity State of Repbublic of Indonesia) based on Creative Economy. Therefore, from the beginning an attention should have been paid to family as a base to strengthen adopting internet technology including maximum utilization of growing and developing creative economy culture”, added Ms.Tifatul Sembiring.
Sound and safe Hotline Service Internet using Free Call 0800-1000-147 is presented to make educational and consulting process able to cover all Indonesian community more easily and cheaply. Information on how to use internet safely and soundly, and anything related to minimizing negative effects and optimizing positive effect from using it will be a key factor in the Hotline Service.
”The existence of YKKI itself has a mission to; make Indonesian family be smart by utilizing technology wisely; establish honoured family able to support principles of the nation through character building; and realize economy independence of the family by developing creative industry according to local potential”, expressed Ms. Tifatul Sembiring.
Vice President Public and Marketing Communication TELKOM, Eddy Kurnia, said fast development of internet use in Indonesia did give attitude wisely and internet knowledge sufficiently so that those accessing internet were able to defend themselves and the people in the surroundings from negative information.
Therefore, it is necessary to have an information media easily accessed by the community, providing information about how to use internet safely and soundly to minimize negative effect and to optimize positive effect from using internet.
To realize such program, YKKI together with TELKOM, IT vendor, and mass media shall build and spread information of this Sound Hotline Internet to the community.
It is expected that with this cooperation, the positive effect from this Sound Hotline Internet may cover the Indonesian community more widely so that internet users in Indonesia can easily access information and consultation on how to use safe and sound internet and knowledge about information technology and communication, particularly those related to the improvement and positive contribution of internet empowerment, creativity and economy of the Indonesian community.
With availability of Safe and Sound Interner Information and Consultation Service through Free Call Hotline Service managed by YKKI, it is expected that internet users in Indonesia are able to easily access information and consultation on how to use safe and sound internet and improve knowledge about information technology and communication particularly those related to the improvement and positive contribution of internet empowerment, creativity and economy of the Indonesian community.
DNS Nawala
Existence of internet does give benefit and facility, yet, it may also give negative effects. TELKOM as the largest ISP (Internet Service Provider) in Indonesia is aware and fully support the Safe and Sound Internet program by developing Mirror DNS Nawala enhanced together with Awari (Asosiasi Warung Internet Indonesia) able to select internet contents.
Mirror DNS Nawala is a service able to use for free by internet users all over Indonesia requiring selected contents. This service specifically will minimize negative contents not conforming to the regulations, religious values, social norms, traditions and morality of the Indonesian nation like pornography and gamble. Besides, DNS Nawala will also block the internet site containing dangerous contents like malware, situs phising and other similar things.
Protection to users, particularly children become TELKOM’s attention in providing DNS Nawala. With the existence of DNS Nawala, it is expected that internet can be a much safer and more comfortable tool so that the community can make use the internet optimally for their progress and welfare.
DNS Nawala fom the beginning has been designed to receive direct input from internet community and the community in general using this facility. This input is observed by Nawala Project Team to determine whether a site is feasible to filter or not. So internet users may propose for some black list site if found negative contents not yet blocked.
