Bandung , January 8, 2007, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (TELKOM) had successfully implemented a laboratory trial for Internet Protocol with technology-based television (IP-TV). This innovation, once proved that IP-based network had a very high capacity and flexibility in delivering various integrated communication services which may not be taken from conventional network.
In laboratory trial conducted by Research and Development Center (RDC) of TELKOM in Bandung (January 8), it was presented how IP-based television might deliver various services aside from television broadcast. Besides the various combined services, IP network-based television may present interactive services.
Vice President of Public and Marketing Communication of TELKOM, Muhammad Awaluddin said that IP-V developed by TELKOM will please its audiences with interactive TV programs (sports, news, movies, and so on) and many other various entertainment programs (music, games, commercial breaks) through a secure and well- managed IP broadband network.
Various enjoyable services from IP-TV consists of programs such as : Electronic Program Guide; Broadcast/Live TV; Pay Per View; Personal Video Recording; Pause TV; Video on Demand; Music on Demand (Walled Garden); Gaming; Interactive advertisement; T-Commerce (please enclosed the services description). Of course, internet site’s browsing may be done through IP-TV.
Innovation Step Regarding when the IP-TV service of TELKOM will be commercially launched, Awaluddin stated that it would depend so much on the necessity and zest which expanded in the market. “Today, TELKOM’s focus is to sound out other service’s potency that can be done by IP network. We know that technology and telecommunication’s trend in the future will be much dominated by IP network’s usage because of its high-convergent capability and its much more efficient investment compared to conventional network,” Awaluddin said.
As the Leading ICT (Information and Communication Technology) operator in Indonesia , according to Awaluddin, TELKOM will keep supporting any innovations developed by its human resources. Laboratory trial of IP-TV service is one of the innovation which deserves TELKOM’s management’s attention and need to be introduced to the publics to get the respond for an advanced development all at once, though for the commercial launching it will need much of depth research.
