TELKOM – IAIN Walisongo sign MoU of Ethernet Metro Access Service

Community of Islamic Educational Institution in Central Java is plenty and relatively having large potential to be developed as an educational institution by using the platform of Information Communication & Telecommunication (ICT) covering internet, application and content. However, for the development of ICT in the future, attention still not be given by the institution concerned to the Islamic university and Islamic education of the lower level.

Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Maftuh Basyuni, said there were four items necessary to pay attention to in order to improve and empower the Islamic education, in his speech in the Seminar held at IAIN Walisongo Semarang (12/2).

First, it is necessary to change the way of behaving from the idle and undisciplined person having lack of creativity to be the disciplined, creative and innovative person and hard worker aiming at becoming a perfect Moslem. Secondly, it is necessary to reform educational institution so that Islamic educational products are able to execute ‘amar ma’ruf nahi mungkar’. Thirdly, to utilize ICT as a facility to develop and empower Islamic education.

Fourthly, utilization of ICT should consider norms, ethics, and procedures to make the technology beneficial and not making the ICT only as a tool, however, the educational institution is the key player able to bring success to a better direction of education.

On that activity TELKOM as a BUMN engaged in Telecommunications sector has obligation to also take part in succeeding the program, therefore, Telkom has also to support the development of ICT-based education by using a method which implementation is harmonized with TELKOM Solution as Business Partner.

A Seminar under the theme “Establish Excellence of Islamic Universities, Islamic Schools & Aliyah High School to produce competitive Alma Mater based on ICT implementation“, was directly opened by the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Maftuh Basyuni.

In the Seminar there was also a signing of cooperation agreement on the use of data and internet service with the capacity of 3 Mbps and Ethernet Metro access 4 Mbps between IAIN Walisongo Semarang and TELKOM made by GM Enterprise of Central Java and DIY Area, Sri Sadono, and Rector of IAIN, Prof. H. Abdul Djamil, MA, witnessed by EGM Divre IV Zulheldi, and Minister of Religious Affairs, Maftuh Basyuni

On this occasion also attended Director General of Islamic Education of Ministry of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. H. Machasin MA, with the topic of “ Challenge of Islamic Education in the Globalization Era“. While Telkom VP Enterprise, Slamet Riyadi, presented a material entitled “Telkom Commitment in Developing Education For Tomorrow”, and Ir. Lilik Gani HA, M.Sc, Kapustekkom of Department of Education presented “ICT Implementation in the Educational World“.

On that occasion Rector Assistant IV of UNDIP Semarang, Dr. Muhammad Nur DEA, presented a seminar material by Video Conference. This is done to prove about utilization of information technology as part of the learning process in the campus circle.

”By this seminar Telkom expects that the education community in this country is also able to cope with that in the neighbored countries in utilizing information technology, so in the end efficiency and effectiveness in the learning and teaching process are able to realize”, expected Slamet Riyadi.

In order to support the objective, TELKOM, through the program of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), provides 12 units of PC to 6 PONPES (Islamic schools), also 5 units of PC and website to IAIN (Islamic Institute) Walisongo Semarang and 14 units of notebook for 10 ‘Aliyah’ Islamic high schools and 4 PONPES (Islamic schools).
