Depok - Waste management remains a serious challenge in urban areas due to high single-use plastic consumption and low public awareness of waste management. According to the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) of Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry (2023), approximately 33.52% of waste in Indonesia is not properly managed. Meanwhile, the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH DKI Jakarta) reported in 2023 that waste generation in the capital reaches approximately 7,500 tons per day. Poorly managed waste often ends up in rivers and waterways, significantly degrading water quality.
In response to this issue, Telkom Indonesia, through its Connect-In: Clean Up Action program, organized an environmental initiative on Saturday, February 14, 2026, along the Ciliwung River in Depok. Telkom Connect-In is an employee volunteering program that directly engages employees in tangible environmental actions. The activity involved 58 participants who successfully collected 500 kilograms of waste from the river. The initiative continued with the release of 1,000 endemic fish to support ecosystem recovery, the planting of 50 trees along the riverbank, and an ecobrick education session to promote more sustainable plastic waste management practices.

This initiative reflects Telkom employees' awareness and commitment to preserving the cleanliness and sustainability of the Ciliwung River, a vital life source. From river clean-up actions to environmental education, the program demonstrates a strong commitment to social and environmental issues with direct impact. Through concrete actions and knowledge-sharing, the initiative fosters collective responsibility, strengthens engagement with local communities, and promotes a healthier, more sustainable environment.
“As a digital company, we understand that sustainability is not only about technology but also about responsibility toward our surrounding environment. Through the Connect-In program at the Ciliwung River, Telkom Indonesia presents an initiative focused on river ecosystem restoration and community empowerment. We believe that corporate progress must go hand in hand with a healthy environment. Through this action, Telkom hopes to deliver tangible benefits, from reducing waste burdens to providing practical, sustainable solutions for communities,” said Hery Susanto, Senior General Manager of Social Responsibility at Telkom Indonesia.

The Connect-In Clean Up Action program is part of Telkom Indonesia’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) initiatives. The program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. Through this initiative, Telkom contributes to preserving water resources, restoring river ecosystems from waste pollution, and strengthening environmental quality through sustainable waste management education.
