Jakarta, 22 February 2023 - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) through metaNesia, the first metaverse platform in Indonesia, launched Istiqlalverse, or the virtual world of the Istiqlal Mosque, as development of the Metaverse technology evolves. The Istiqlal Mosque virtual world platform is expected to create a new experience for the public who want to familiarize themselves with the Metaverse world while at the same time experience the beauty of the Istiqlal Mosque. Telkom Digital Business Director Fajrin Rasyid and Istiqlal Global Fund (IGF) President Director Mulyono Lodji,  witnessed by the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, MA, launched the Istiqlalverse on Wednesday (22/2) to coincide with the mosque's 45th anniversary celebration. 

Telkom through metaNesia is present to introduce virtual world technology as it gradually becomes an integral part of people's daily activities. Taking this into account, Telkom and the Istiqlal Mosque collaboration enables people from all across Indonesia, who do not have the opportunity to visit the location in-person, to visit and experience the mosque virtually. 

"metaNesia is the first metaverse platform in Indonesia with a noble goal of starting to introduce the metaverse ecosystem with advanced technology in Indonesia. The New Istiqlal in the metaNesia ecosystem will serve as a new medium for visitors to interact in the virtual Istiqlal mosque in a more interactive and immersive manner, as well as to get a variety of new views and information about the Istiqlal Mosque," Fajrin said.

Metaverse grew into a new trend worldwide in late 2021 with ever-developing technology and increasing users. As the largest provider of the Metaverse ecosystem in Indonesia, metaNesia, which is under the Leap-Telkom Digital umbrella, is also equipped with various interesting features that can be used free of charge without a VR device. Users can access metaNesia through their devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, MA  welcomed the launch of the Istiqlalverse, saying “Istiqlal Mosque is the first mosque in Indonesia that enters the metaverse and it is the only mosque present in the metaverse. With the advanced technology used in the Istiqlalverse, users can access this virtual world from anywhere by only using a mobile phone, find out various interesting information and learn more about the Istiqlal Mosque building."

"The 45th anniversary of the Istiqlal Mosque, themed  'New Istiqlal, Inclusive Diversity for a Great Indonesia' is in line with the mosque's mission to preach da'wah to society and the world, supported by having the the Istiqlal Mosque's virtual presence in the Istiqlalverse through metaNesia. Activities held to celebrate the mosque's 45th anniversary are aimed to inform the public that the Istiqlal Mosque is open for the public after the pandemic and is ready to serve people in the New Istiqlal era," IGF President Director and chairman of the committee Mulyono Lodji said during the launch.
