Telkom Employee Contribution Trail: Planting Trees, Cultivating Hope

Cianjur - Forest degradation in the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) area remains an environmental issue requiring serious attention. According to a Mongabay report (2017), the hunting of cacing sonari has caused forest damage reaching up to 20 hectares, including core zones that should be free from human activity. This condition underscores the importance of collaborative ecosystem restoration efforts.

As a form of commitment to environmental conservation, Telkom Indonesia, through the Telkom Employee Social Activity (TESA) program, carried out a reforestation activity on 1 November 2025 in Tegallega Village, Cianjur, West Java. This initiative serves as a concrete step by Telkom in supporting the recovery of conservation areas while promoting environmental awareness among employees.

During the activity, participants planted 150 endemic tree seedlings, Kisireum, Puspa, and Huru, three native plant species of West Java forests that play a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem stability. The selection of endemic trees ensures that the rehabilitation process aligns with TNGGP’s ecological characteristics and supports long-term biodiversity restoration.

The reforestation effort involved 65 participants, consisting of Telkom employees, support staff (TKP), representatives from the Forestry Office, and residents. This multi-stakeholder collaboration demonstrates that forest conservation cannot be done in isolation—it requires the collective involvement of communities, government, and the private sector to create meaningful impact.

“This activity is not just about planting trees, but restoring the ecological function of forests as life-support systems. Environmental concern must go hand in hand with technological progress and community welfare. That is why employee involvement in social and conservation activities is essential—they are the driving force ensuring every initiative delivers consistent, sustainable benefits that are directly felt by the community,” said Hery Susanto, Senior General Manager of Social Responsibility at Telkom Indonesia.

The TESA program is part of Telkom Indonesia’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL), which focuses on community empowerment and environmental preservation. Through this reforestation effort, Telkom contributes to achieving SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), while strengthening the movement that encourages employees to engage in social initiatives actively. With collaboration between the company, employees, and the community, sustainability efforts built today can deliver broader, tangible, and lasting impact for future generations.
