In Indonesia, visual impairment remains a health challenge that requires serious attention. According to the Rapid Assessment on Avoidable Blindness survey conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2025, approximately 15 million people aged 50 and above experience visual impairment, with cataracts and refractive errors as the leading causes. This condition highlights the importance of collaborative efforts to expand access to eye health services to improve quality of life, particularly for the elderly.

As part of efforts to improve community well-being, Telkom Indonesia implemented the Telkom Indonesia Cataract Surgery Program, which was conducted on Thursday and Friday, December 4–5, 2025. The activity took place at RSUD Cikalong Wetan, West Bandung Regency, targeting 100 elderly participants in need of cataract treatment. Through this program, Telkom Indonesia aims to help restore visual function so that participants can resume daily activities more independently.

In its implementation, Telkom Indonesia provided support through cataract surgery procedures conducted directly by professional medical personnel. The entire process began with health screenings, followed by surgical procedures, and concluded with post-operative monitoring to ensure participants’ safety and comfort. This comprehensive approach was designed to ensure that the benefits of health services were optimally received by beneficiaries.

As a digital company, Telkom Indonesia believes that technology and connectivity should go hand in hand with improving people’s quality of life. Through social programs in the health sector, Telkom not only focuses on developing digital infrastructure but also promotes more inclusive access to essential services. In this way, Telkom’s presence is expected to generate tangible and sustainable social impact.

“Efforts to improve public health quality require an integrated and sustainable approach. Through this cataract surgery program, Telkom Indonesia seeks to provide more equitable access to health services by emphasizing collaboration, the use of connected systems, and targeted program management. This initiative is part of Telkom Indonesia’s commitment to delivering solutions that have a direct impact on society,” said Hery Susanto, Senior General Manager of Social Responsibility at Telkom Indonesia.

The Telkom Indonesia Cataract Surgery Program is part of the company’s implementation of Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL), which is oriented toward community welfare. This initiative also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), in ensuring healthy lives and well-being for people of all ages. Through continuous collaboration, Telkom Indonesia remains committed to delivering consistent, measurable, and wide-reaching social contributions to society.
