The climate crisis and increasing environmental damage are significant challenges currently faced by Indonesia. According to data from WALHI in the Environmental Outlook 2025, between 2014 and 2023, Indonesia lost 4.36 million hectares of wet primary forest. On World Environment Day 2025, the Ministry of Environment stated that Indonesia produces around 56.6 million tons of waste annually, but only 22.09 million tons (39%) are properly managed. The majority — more than 34 million tons — end up polluting the environment. Meanwhile, in various regions of Indonesia, industrial waste management remains a critical issue, with approximately 46% of the country's 70,000 rivers suffering from severe pollution. Given these diverse environmental challenges, collaboration among multiple stakeholders is necessary to develop sustainable solutions.
As a tangible commitment, Telkom Indonesia is once again presenting the Bumi Berseru Festival (BBF) 2025, a collaborative platform for environmental innovation that brings together the public, communities, academics, and MSMEs. This festival builds on the success of BBF 2024, which showcased hundreds of eco-friendly innovations and inspired real movements in many regions across Indonesia.
The Grand Launching of Bumi Berseru Fest (BBF) 2025 was officially held in a hybrid format on Saturday, August 23, at Coffee Beams Solo, with live streaming via Zoom. The event was attended by over 500 representatives from environmental communities, Youth, and creative sectors committed to sustainability. Also present was the Deputy for Climate Change Control and Carbon Economic Value Governance of the Ministry of Environment, Ir. Ary Sudijanto, M.S.E., emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, business, and society in safeguarding environmental sustainability.
This Grand Launching marks the beginning of the BBF 2025 series, which carries the theme “Land, Water, Us” — a collective call to protect the earth through real action, collaboration, and digital innovation. The theme also reflects the spirit of independence, where protecting the homeland is an act of national love to be passed on from generation to generation.
Ir. Ary Sudijanto, Youth. stated: “Youth and digitalization are a powerful combination that can drive change. Today, the earth is facing three major crises: climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. We need great collective energy to address these challenges. That is why we fully support Telkom’s initiative through Bumi Berseru Fest, which provides clear direction and messages for all of us. When we move together toward eco-friendly innovation in our daily lives, we will be able to face these crises and create a more sustainable future.”
Bumi Berseru Fest 2025, as part of Telkom Indonesia’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program, features four competition categories open to the public. First, Action for the Earth, a competition for environmental program proposals focusing on ecosystem and biodiversity conservation on land and at sea. Second, Nature Through the Lens, an environmental photography contest on Instagram, where each post equals one tree seedling for Indonesia’s reforestation efforts. Third, Eco Product Innovation is a competition for MSMEs, students, and the public to create local products that apply eco-friendly and sustainable principles. Fourth, Green Technology and Sustainable Innovation, a competition for organizations/communities to propose environmental initiatives with innovative or appropriate technology solutions.
The submission period for Bumi Berseru Fest 2025 officially runs from August 23 to September 30, 2025. For more than a month, communities, students, and MSMEs can participate by submitting their best ideas, works, or innovations in the environmental field. All submissions will be curated and selected to identify top programs. The best proposals will receive funding support worth millions of rupiah for real implementation within communities.
Senior General Manager of Telkom Indonesia’s Social Responsibility Center, Hery Susanto, stated: “In this month of independence, the spirit of protecting our homeland is no longer only about physical struggle, but also about how we care for the earth as our shared home. Through Bumi Berseru Fest 2025, Telkom Indonesia as a digital company seeks to create a collaborative space between stakeholders and society that integrates environmental awareness with the power of technology and digital innovation. This initiative is aligned with Telkom’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, through the theme Land, Water, Us, we also present a special gift for the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia — a form of national love realized through real actions to preserve the environment.”
Bumi Berseru Fest 2025 is expected to become a platform for fresh ideas and innovative solutions to address Indonesia’s environmental challenges. By involving multiple stakeholders, Telkom Indonesia aims to ensure that digital collaboration and real action can create a positive impact on the sustainability of the earth — including land, water, and life — as a heritage for future generations.
