Jakarta – In the spirit of commemorating Heroes Month, Telkom Indonesia invites the public to become today’s “environmental heroes” through real actions to protect the planet. Environmental crises remain one of Indonesia’s significant challenges. According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) in 2025, the net deforestation rate in 2024 reached 175.4 thousand hectares. Meanwhile, the 2025 Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) Report from Bappenas highlights the deterioration of aquatic ecosystems caused by coral reef damage, overfishing, marine plastic waste, and the impacts of climate change. Data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) of KLHK as of July 24, 2024, also shows that total national waste reached 31.9 million tons across 290 districts/cities in Indonesia. These conditions demonstrate that public collaboration in environmental protection is increasingly crucial to slow the rate of environmental degradation.
As a concrete effort to address these issues, Telkom Indonesia launched Bumi Berseru Fest, a collaborative initiative encouraging youth, communities, and small and medium enterprises to take part in a movement toward a greener and more sustainable planet. Bumi Berseru stands for “Bersama Selamatkan dan Rehabilitasi Bumi” (Together Save and Rehabilitate the Earth), which reflects the core mission of the program: mobilizing society to innovate and take action for the environment.
As part of the Bumi Berseru Fest 2025 activities and in commemoration of Heroes Month, Telkom Indonesia held the Bumi Berseru Fest 2025 Awarding Day virtually on November 8, 2025. On this occasion, 42 top teams from the categories Action for the Earth, Eco-Product Innovation, and Green Technology & Sustainable Innovation were announced as recipients of the first funding phase, each receiving up to IDR 15 million. The selected teams will undergo further mentoring and monitoring to ensure that their proposed programs truly deliver measurable environmental impact.
In addition, for the Lens of Nature category, Telkom Indonesia also announced the three main winners who presented the best photography works highlighting the beauty and sustainability of Indonesia’s natural environment. Through this competition, all participants contributed directly to reforestation efforts, as each uploaded photo was equivalent to the donation of one tree seedling to support national greening and forest restoration programs.
Telkom Indonesia’s Senior General Manager of Social Responsibility, Hery Susanto, stated, “As a digital company, Telkom Indonesia not only focuses on technological development but also on innovations that create impact for sustainability. Through Bumi Berseru Fest, we aim to cultivate the spirit of today’s environmental heroes by collaborating with communities, students, and the public to create positive change for the planet. We believe that collaboration and innovation are the keys to building a greener and more resilient future.”
This event serves as a crucial momentum to drive real action in environmental protection. Through the Bumi Berseru Fest, Telkom and the finalists ensure that every idea does not stop at the concept stage but can be transformed into sustainable initiatives that benefit both the environment and society.
Bumi Berseru Fest 2025 acts as a collaborative platform to strengthen Indonesia’s green innovation ecosystem. This program is part of Telkom Indonesia’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) commitment, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Life on Land).
Through initiatives like this, Telkom Indonesia remains committed to creating shared value for society and the environment, continuing the spirit of national heroes in a new way: becoming environmental heroes for a greener and more sustainable future.
