From Compassion to Action: Telkom Indonesia’s Blood Donation Initiative

Blood is a vital element of human life—it carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and even waste products throughout our bodies. According to the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), every eight seconds, someone in Indonesia requires a blood transfusion. Ideally, the nation should be able to meet a demand of 5.6 million blood bags per year. However, data from the Indonesian Blood Donor Committee (KDDI) in 2024 shows that only 4 to 4.2 million bags are supplied annually, leaving a deficit of around 1.4 million. This shortfall highlights the urgent need to encourage more voluntary blood donations to ensure a safe and equitable blood supply across the country.

In response to this challenge, Telkom Indonesia launched a blood donation initiative involving employees, partners, and the wider community—serving as a tangible expression of its social responsibility. More than just collecting blood, the program was designed to raise awareness about the importance of donating regularly, not only for personal health benefits but also for saving the lives of others.

The initiative was met with enthusiastic participation, attracting 150 donors across three different locations: GMP Telkom Japati on August 12, 2025, Masjid Darul Ihsan Telkom Gegerkalong on August 18, 2025, and Mutiara Cimahi on September 20, 2025. The strong turnout demonstrated how a spirit of generosity and social care can translate into thousands of lives saved each year.

Hery Susanto, Senior General Manager of Social Responsibility at Telkom Indonesia, shared: “Blood donation is a simple act with an extraordinary impact—where a single bag of blood can save the life of someone in need of a transfusion. As a digital company transforming to better serve the community, Telkom Indonesia is committed to bringing social care through concrete actions such as this initiative. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, by supporting broader healthcare access for society. We hope that through this effort, more people will be inspired to donate blood regularly, because every drop given is a drop of hope for someone in need.”

Telkom Indonesia remains committed to consistently delivering social initiatives that provide real benefits to communities. The blood donation program is part of the company’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) agenda, serving as a concrete contribution toward advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. Through this initiative, Telkom aims to foster stronger social solidarity and collective care—helping to build a healthier, more compassionate society for all.
