From Training Rooms to Classrooms, Ms. Ismi Brings the Benefits of AI to 130 Teachers and Students in Aceh

BANDA ACEH, October 20, 2026 – Not all big changes begin with extraordinary leaps. Sometimes, transformation starts with the courage to learn something new, try what hasn't been done before, and share that knowledge with others.

That is the journey taken by Nurismi, affectionately known as Ms. Ismi, an Informatics (ICT) teacher at SMA Negeri 14 Banda Aceh. With teaching experience and a passion for continuous growth, she now leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help fellow teachers and students learn more creatively while making educational tasks more effective.

For Ms. Ismi, this path was not without its challenges. Before becoming a Civil Servant (ASN) in 2024, she spent 10 years teaching Biology as a foundation contract teacher. Transitioning from Biology to Informatics was a new chapter that demanded constant learning and adaptation to technological developments.

Amid her responsibilities as a mother of three and an educator, she chose not to stop at what she had already mastered. Every day, she manages her teaching routine while staying open to new knowledge that supports her work at school.

Starting from Doubt, Growing into Courage

A significant turning point in Ms. Ismi's journey began when she was selected to participate in the Rural Youth AI training program organized by TelkomGroup in Aceh on July 29–31, 2026.

When she first joined the training, she lacked confidence because she had to learn alongside fellow participants with university-lecturer backgrounds. However, as she grasped the AI material relevant to the Informatics subject she teaches, that hesitation gradually turned into enthusiasm.

She saw AI not merely as a new technology, but as a tool that could help teachers manage workloads, draft learning materials, and create more engaging learning experiences for students.

From the training, Ms. Ismi acquired knowledge and AI learning modules that she subsequently developed to suit the needs of her school environment. To her, useful knowledge shouldn't stop with oneself. A greater opportunity arises when that knowledge is shared and used collectively.

From One Teacher, Reaching More Educators and Students

Upon returning from the training, Ms. Ismi began applying what she learned through the school's Learning Community (Kelompok Belajar / Kombel). Held twice a month, this forum became a space for her to share practical methods for integrating AI with fellow teachers.

One application involves using AI platforms like Claude to help prepare learning administration materials, from teaching modules to Student Worksheets (LKPD). With this approach, teachers can explore more efficient workflows while customizing the outputs to fit their specific teaching contexts and needs.

The initiative soon expanded beyond her own school. Ms. Ismi began sharing her knowledge through the Subject Teacher Discussion Forum (MGMP) for Informatics, covering 16 public and private high schools across Banda Aceh, as well as the Biology MGMP forum closely tied to her previous teaching background.

She also volunteered to teach students at SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh. There, AI was introduced through everyday practical applications, such as creating creative recipe flyers using ChatGPT and Gemini.

That experience created a memorable moment for her. Students who previously assumed only those with specialized skills could create attractive graphic designs realized they, too, could create great work using technology.

"Alhamdulillah, the teachers received it warmly and were excited because it truly simplified their work. While drafting a teaching module usually takes a long time, AI delivers results aligned with expectations in a short period. Even at SMAN 12, the students felt very proud and said, 'Ah, it turns out I can make flyers as good as the OSIS (Student Council) design team, ' shared Ms. Ismi.

This experience shows that AI benefits not only improve efficiency, but also build the confidence to experiment, create, and develop new capabilities.

When Shared Knowledge Creates a Broader Impact

For Ms. Ismi, participating in Rural Youth AI was a distinct experience compared to other training programs she had attended. The concepts and hands-on practice were highly relevant and applicable not only to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), but also adaptable to the education sector based on user needs.

"The AI training I attended from Telkom was different from other sessions I've joined. The materials and practical exercises presented in the Rural Youth AI program were immensely useful—not only relevant for MSMEs, but also easily adopted by teachers like myself or students in schools, naturally with a few adjustments," she expressed.

She hopes the opportunity to share knowledge will continue and reach even more beneficiaries. Moving forward, Ms. Ismi plans to expand training into graphic design extracurricular activities at SMA Negeri 14 Banda Aceh and explore using AI to support interactive learning evaluations through platforms like Quizizz and Kahoot.

These steps form part of her effort to bring technology closer to real classroom needs. From training rooms and teacher lounges to classrooms, she continues to find new ways to create value with the knowledge she gained.

Ms. Ismi's story illustrates how TelkomGroup's Rural Youth AI program helps participants build digital competencies and share them with their surrounding communities. Through this initiative, TelkomGroup encourages the growth of local talent capable of utilizing technology creatively and relevantly.

In line with the spirit of Bersama Jadi Bisa through the BISA PandAI pillar, this endeavor underscores that digital transformation in education is not just about mastering technology—it is about individuals who have the courage to learn, share, and drive meaningful change.

Because when one person steps forward to learn, the benefits can reach many more. When knowledge is shared, a single learning opportunity can mark the start of broader change in Indonesian education.
