EAST NUSA TENGGARA, September 25, 2026 — For children in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), post-earthquake recovery is not just about getting back to school. More than that, they need a space to feel safe again, play, learn, and slowly restore their courage after experiencing a disaster.
This is the spirit TelkomGroup brought through the teacher skills strengthening and post-earthquake child psychological support program at SDN Reo 1 and SDN Reo 2, Manggarai Regency, NTT, on September 22–25, 2026. Carrying the spirit of Bersama Jadi Bisa (Together We Can), this program combines teacher capacity building, children's psychological recovery activities, the utilisation of digital technology, and learning facility support to help schools gradually resume their activities.
This support is increasingly critical given the scale of the earthquake's impact on the education sector. Based on 2026 data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), 1,378 schools, 177,678 students, and 21,166 teachers were affected, with 5,521 classrooms damaged. As many as 923 schools even had to temporarily dismiss students, while 171 schools implemented distance learning and 35 schools conducted teaching and learning activities in emergency tents.
Empowering Teachers, Healing Children: The TelkomGroup program began with a Training of Trainers (ToT) attended by 30 teachers from both schools. The teachers were not only equipped with child assistance skills, but also reinforced in recognising and managing their own emotional states as a crucial part of the post-disaster assistance process.
After participating in the ToT, the teachers directly applied what they learned by mentoring students through several activities designed to create a safe, enjoyable, and supportive learning environment.
At the school, TelkomGroup presented a special post that gave children a space to participate in skill-strengthening activities while receiving psychological support. Through an approach closer to the children's world—namely playing, interacting, creating, and using digital technology—as many as 150 students from SDN Reo 1 and SDN Reo 2 enthusiastically participated in the series of activities.
This approach is an important part because post-disaster recovery does not stop when physical conditions begin to improve. Children also need space to express themselves, rebuild their self-confidence, and once again experience a positive learning environment.
Technology is Present to Protect the Right to Learn. As a digital company, TelkomGroup also provided technological support to support the recovery of educational activities. The assistance provided included two emergency tent units, two Telkomsel Orbit packages, 10 tablet device packages, and 150 Healing Kit packages for the children, such as books, drawing kits, origami paper, and T-shirts.
This support was provided to help schools maintain space and supporting facilities to carry out learning activities amid post-disaster conditions.
“As a digital company, Telkom is always committed to presenting solutions that are not only technology-oriented but also deliver a tangible social impact for the community. Amidst this post-disaster recovery process, we want to ensure that children in NTT continue to receive their right to learn in a safe and comfortable environment, while also ensuring that teachers have the adequate capacity and support to guide them,” said Hery Susanto, Senior General Manager of Social Responsibility at Telkom Indonesia.
More than just assistance, TelkomGroup's presence is expected to be part of a sustainable recovery process. By strengthening teacher capacity, providing a recovery space for children, and presenting technological support and learning facilities, schools are expected to once again become safe spaces for children to grow and learn.
Together We Can, Rise and Return to Learning. The teacher skills-strengthening and child psychological support program post-NTT earthquake is part of the implementation of TelkomGroup's Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL), as well as the company's contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4: Quality Education.
Through the spirit of Bersama Jadi Bisa, TelkomGroup believes that post-disaster recovery is not just about rebuilding what is broken, but also about empowering the people within it.
Because when teachers become strong again, children gain the space to regain their confidence. And when children are brave enough to learn again, the hope to rise grows anew.
