KALIMANTAN, September 11, 2026 — Smog from forest and land fires (karhutla) has once again threatened communities across several regions of Kalimantan. Amidst worsening air conditions, the public faces not only environmental impacts but also health risks from exposure to harmful particles and pollutants contained in the fire smoke.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the dry season will peak from July to September 2026, increasing the potential for forest and land fires. These conditions potentially worsen air quality and increase exposure to pollutants such as fine particulate matter (PM2.5), carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and other hazardous compounds that can disrupt health, particularly the respiratory system.
Amidst these conditions, TelkomGroup took action through the TelkomGroup Peduli Bencana Karhutla 2026 program by distributing medical logistics assistance to communities and frontline workers in the affected areas. This assistance is part of TelkomGroup's efforts to support public health protection while strengthening community resilience against the impacts of smog.
Present in Three Affected Regions
TelkomGroup distributed the medical logistics assistance on September 11, 2026, to various disaster response posts and affected community groups in three main regions: South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and West Kalimantan.
In total, TelkomGroup distributed 740 boxes of medical masks and 270 boxes of vitamins. This assistance aims to support the community's basic protection from smog exposure while helping maintain their physical condition during activities amid the forest fire situation.
This distribution is part of TelkomGroup's Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) commitment to be present in the community during emergencies. Beyond helping meet basic needs on the ground, this support is expected to help the community continue their activities with better protection while air quality is affected by smog.
Together We Can, Present When the Community Needs It
“As a digital company, Telkom understands that the safety and health of the community in areas affected by forest fires is a matter of mutual concern. Through the distribution of these masks and vitamins, Telkom is committed to providing basic protection support for residents and frontline workers on the ground. The spirit of Bersama Jadi Bisa is the foundation for Telkom to move and be present to support the community in facing this situation,” said Hery Susanto, Senior General Manager of Social Responsibility at Telkom Indonesia.
For TelkomGroup, disaster management is not only about responding during emergencies but also part of efforts to build communities that are more resilient in the face of various environmental risks. Therefore, health support is an important aspect of ensuring the community can remain active and protected during the recovery period.
The TelkomGroup Peduli Bencana Karhutla 2026 program is also part of TelkomGroup's TJSL implementation in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 13: Climate Action.
Through the spirit of Bersama Jadi Bisa, TelkomGroup continues to be present with the community in emergency situations, while also encouraging the creation of communities that are increasingly resilient, healthy, and ready to face future environmental challenges.
