GRESIK, September 2, 2026 — Protecting the coast is not just about planting trees; it's about preserving a home for life and a natural fortress for surrounding communities. This awareness was realised by TelkomGroup through Aksi Lestari (Sustainable Action), by planting 1,000 mangrove seedlings in Banyuurip Village, Ujungpangkah District, Gresik Regency, East Java.

The planting action, held on September 2, 2026, involved TelkomGroup employees from the Telkom Employee Social Activity (TESA) alongside the local community. The planting focused on several coastal points that require vegetation strengthening, as part of efforts to support the restoration of coastal ecosystems while maintaining environmental sustainability for the surrounding communities.

Coastal ecosystem degradation and abrasion are challenges that require attention and collaboration from multiple parties. Based on WALHI data from 2024, mangrove area in East Java has declined by up to 30,279 hectares over 36 years, from around 57,500 hectares in 1985. This highlights the importance of sustainable ecosystem recovery steps, including rehabilitating mangrove areas.

Through Employees for a More Sustainable Coast, part of the BISA Lestari environmental pillar, TelkomGroup encourages employees to take a direct role in protecting the environment. Not stopping at program support, TESA employees also went into the field and planted mangroves with the Banyuurip Village community.

Mangroves play an important role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems and become a habitat for various biota. Their presence can also help reduce wave impacts and maintain coastal environment quality.

Planting 1,000 mangroves in Gresik is part of TelkomGroup's efforts to support ecosystem restoration while raising awareness that environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility.
